How to design a wedding album

Updated 2026-11-08

To design a wedding album: select your best photos, plan the story in order (getting ready, ceremony, family, portraits, reception), choose a design and size such as 12×36, place one story moment per spread, edit the photos for a consistent look, check every photo prints at 200 to 300 DPI, and export 300 DPI JPG or PSD files for the lab.

  1. Select the photos. Pick the strongest photos of each moment and remove near-duplicates. Keep the photographer's original files, not compressed copies.
  2. Plan the story. Order the spreads: cover, the bride, the groom, the ceremony, the rituals, family, portraits, reception and a thank-you spread.
  3. Choose a design. Pick a style that fits the photos: modern collage, geometric cuts or a classic layout. InviteFlix has wedding, pre-wedding and birthday designs.
  4. Place the photos. Give each spread one hero photo and a few supporting ones. Keep faces away from the centre fold.
  5. Edit for a consistent look. Apply one look to all photos, then fix exposure and colour on the few that stand out. Retouch skin lightly.
  6. Check print quality and export. Make sure each frame is at least 200 DPI (ideally 300), proofread the names and dates, and export 300 DPI JPGs (and PSDs) for the printer.

Questions

How long does it take to design an album?

With designed spreads, a 15 to 20 spread album can be laid out in an afternoon; most of the time goes into choosing photos.

Should faces cross the middle?

No. The centre fold is the binding; keep faces and text at least half an inch away from it.
