12×36 album size guide

Updated 2026-11-08

A 12×36 album spread is one sheet 36 inches wide and 12 inches tall that folds into two 12×18 inch pages. At the 300 DPI that print labs expect it is 10800 × 3600 pixels. Keep faces and text at least half an inch from the edges and away from the centre fold.

Pixels at common resolutions

300 DPI: 10800 × 3600 px, the standard for photo-book printing. 200 DPI: 7200 × 2400 px, acceptable for large photos viewed at arm's length. Below 150 DPI prints start to look soft.

The fold

The centre of the spread is the binding. Avoid putting a face or a line of text across the middle inch; designs usually place one large photo on each side, or let a landscape photo cross the fold where nothing important sits.

Margins and bleed

Keep important content 0.5 inch inside the edges. Background colours and photos should run all the way to the edge so trimming leaves no white line.

PSD or JPG?

Send JPG when the lab only prints. Keep a layered PSD so you or a designer can still move photos, change text or swap colours later. InviteFlix downloads both for every spread, with guides at the fold and margins in the PSD.

Photo quality

Use the original files from the photographer, not WhatsApp copies, which are heavily compressed. InviteFlix shows the print resolution of each photo frame, so you can see when a picture is too small.
